The meaning of the name "Bethany" has particular significance for a nursing home. The original place called Bethany dates back to New Testament times. It was located near Jerusalem and was the setting of several recorded events in the travels and ministry of Jesus. Jesus found at Bethany a place of refuge, refreshment and fellowship among friends Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Bethany was the place from which Jesus made his "triumphal entry." It also was the site of Jesus' final departure from his disciples. Today, Bethany Home for the Aged provides a similar place for comfort, sustenance, and purpose in life's journey. The emblem of Bethany depicts two clasped hands symbolizing the giving and receiving of help. Many hands have come together in making Bethany the home it is today. Community and church groups have contributed in a special way to the development of Bethany. The Bethany Auxiliary has been a supporting hand in Bethany's past as well as present. One of their significant accomplishments has been the Bethany Cookbook. Thousands of copies have been sold throughout the world. The proceeds from the sale of this book continue to provide funds for special projects at Bethany. In 1967, Bethany expanded its facility by the addition of "South Wing," known as Promise Lane. In 1976, a new "East Wing," or Serenity Gardens, was built. In 1988, a new "West Wing," or Dakota Drive, was built, which replaced the former "West Wing." Changes are always in progress, but the primary purpose for which Bethany was established remains the same. The staff continues to be dedicated to the task of providing loving care and service to those in need. We are proud of our Home, its heritage, its community spirit, and its commitment to the past, the future, and its purpose. We give credit to all who have had a part in Bethany's life and growth, and with renewed vision dedicate our thoughts and energy to the future. | Bethany
